On Thursday 13th July, 2017, multi-award-winning online casino software provider Microgaming announced that they had signed a licensing agreement with Compass International Pictures, Inc. to develop a new branded slot called Halloween® which is based on the iconic 1978 American independent slasher movie of the same name.
“Halloween is a true classic and set the standard for modern horror films. It was immeasurably influential in the slasher genre of movies, so it is great to be working with such an iconic and respected brand,” said the Games Publisher at Microgaming, David Reynolds. “Embracing all the elements of what made the movie such a success, our games team are busy developing a slot for release later in the year.”
Let’s take a quick look at some facts about the classic horror movie, Halloween®. The movie was directed and scored by John Carpenter and it was co-written with producer Debra Hill. One of the main stars was Donald Pleasance and it was also the debut movie for Jamie Lee Curtis. The entire budget for this film was a mere $300,000 and it went on to generate more than $70 million worldwide.
$23 million of this was made internationally and $47 million of this was made at the box office in the United States. Just over a decade ago, in 2006, the Halloween® movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
Halloween® currently has a 7.8 rating on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) and it also features in many other movie polls. It was also named in 2010 as one of The 100 Greatest Movies of All Time on Total Film. This was the first instalment in what has become known as the Halloween franchise and over the past forty years a total of 10 movies in this epic series have been released.
The movie centres on the main character, Michael Myers, who in 1963 at the tender age of 6, murdered his sister. Fast forward 15 years and we see Michael Myers return to the fictional midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois to continue his killing spree. This movie has remained a favourite with both viewers and critics and it will be great to eventually see as an online slot machine.
