Just three weeks ago, on January 5th, 2013, we published an article about a progressive jackpot that we had been keeping a close eye. It was already a record-breaker back then at the start of January when it exceeded €15.5 million, but it carried on growing until it was finally taken down on Sunday 20th January.
The currently unnamed 40-year-old player was from Finland and he was playing at an online casino for Finnish-players-only called 'Play Among Friends' (PAF Casino) when he won. Any UK player could have taken down this jackpot from secure online casinos such as Victor Chandler Casino, Unibet Casino, Betsson Casino, Mr Green Casino and ComeOn Casino, to mention just a few, but unfortunately they missed out this time.
The Chief Executive Officer for NetEnt, Per Eriksson released a statement after the win, "This is our second world record jackpot in online gaming. The large liquidity within the slots with progressive jackpots enables the rapid growth of these jackpots, which is great news for the operators. We want to congratulate the winner of this record jackpot and hope to turn many more players into millionaires in the future."
He was talking about the previous record that this same slot held when it paid out a record-breaking €11.7 million, plus €5.3 million on another occasion, making a grand total of more than €26 million that this slot has paid out since it first started accepting real cash wagers.
The head of press and public relations for PAF Casino, Anders Sims, also commented on this historic win, "This win is completely off the charts for these kinds of games. The whole gaming world has been holding its breath during this fall and winter, while the jackpot has just kept on growing. As this jackpot was pooled, which means that it is shared by several gaming companies, we are naturally very happy about the fact that the jackpot was again won by one of our customers. Paf players seem to have an incredibly good flow at the moment."
Although this jackpot is currently only worth a fraction of what it was worth last week, UK players can still play for numerous other huge progressive jackpots at multiple different secure UK online casinos. The Mega Moolah Mega Jackpot, by Microgaming, is (at the time of writing) worth just over £2 million. The Jackpot for another NetEnt slot called Arabian Nights has also just exceeded €2.6 million (£2.2 million) and Playtech's Gladiator Jackpot Slot has almost reached £1.1 million.
